Elden Ring Runes Player Points Out Funny Question With Cancel Summon Prompt

eldenring

Players who are unfamiliar with FromSoftware’s UX and UI will find Elden Ring runes‘s UX and UI to be particularly challenging, with one instance displaying a confusing summon prompt.

There are numerous issues with the user experience and the user interface in Elden Ring and previous FromSoftware titles. Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, for example, all essentially throw players into the action with a brief, expository lore dump, but after that, players are left to fend for themselves. Other issues, on the other hand, are related to Elden Ring’s specific text or HUD features.

Although fans were initially concerned about the inability to pause Elden Ring, creative workarounds have since been found to make this possible. Fans’ initial reactions to transparent menus were mixed. Furthermore, when using the Elden Ring’s network functionality, players will come across hundreds of intermittent messages from other players, which can be frustrating. These messages either serve as a cryptic guide to a reward or serve as a funny prank on the players. As a substitute, scripted text prompts for actual mechanics have been found to be less clear in their design, leading to player confusion.

As Redditor vealonmusic points out, one common instance of Elden Ring item’s UX obscurity is when one of the prompts requests that the summon sign be canceled. after which you will see two prompts: OK and CANCEL. In this situation, because CANCEL is both an option for players to choose and an objective of the prompt in question, it is possible that players will be perplexed as to which option to choose because both options technically mean yes in this situation. Of course, the term “CANCEL” refers to the act of canceling the summons and withdrawing from the prompt.

cancel or cancel?
This is just one of a slew of user interface (UX) issues that players have raised. Restoring Elden Ring’s spectral steed Torrent, according to Redditor Kantro18, is an overly complicated process that should be avoided at all costs. A prompt appears when players whistle for the stallion’s reappearance, asking whether they would be willing to sacrifice a flask in order to bring the steed back to life. However, the worst part is that the NO option is selected by default when the cursor is hovered over the prompt. During a battle, this can be particularly aggravating because players are forced to simultaneously play 4D chess with their fingers while simultaneously switching over to the YES button.

FromSoftware players have become more or less accustomed to these types of design elements. However, the massive success of Elden Ring has attracted new fans to the community, many of whom will be unfamiliar with the muscle memory required for much of the community’s traditional menu optimization techniques. It is possible that menus and prompt selections will be updated in the future to provide more up-to-date functionality. Instead, FromSoftware has been basing its titles on the same features, HUD, and user interface (UX) for quite some time, and it may be too entrenched in its tried-and-true formula to make any significant changes.
